MINI GRANT PROGRAM
OBJECTIVE
The Mini Grant (MG) program provides an opportunity to fund student-centered activities, special projects, and supplies that complement, expand, or offer a creative take on something being learned in the curriculum, by which students directly benefit from their involvement and use and which are outside of annually budgeted MTSD and building funds.
ELIGIBILITY
Anyone is able to submit a MG application!
FUNDING
MG will be funded from general PTO fundraising revenues. The total MG funds available will be set by the PTO Executive Board.
CRITERIA AND PROCESS
- MG requests are generally for new projects/ideas.
- Although there is no maximum grant amount, the awarding of any grants is subject to available budgeted funds. Note also that items or services should not be eligible for funding in the normal school budget.
- MG requests cannot be used for additional compensation for a teacher or staff member for any reason.
- Equipment and other non-consumables purchased become property of Steffen Middle School and must remain with the school.
- Principal Review: The Principal will conduct an initial review to determine if the proposal aligns with school priorities, including curriculum and learning goals. In addition, the Principal will know about school or district policies that could materially impact a request.
- PTO Board Review & Approval Considerations: MG applications will be reviewed and approved by the PTO Executive Board based upon the following criteria:
- Proposed costs are reasonable and within available funds allotted.
- Proposal expands on existing curriculum and is for items/activities not included in the annual classroom budget, or funded by the district.
- Proposed projects, activities, and/or supplies directly engage, involve, or affect students.
- Proposal provides learning opportunities and/or lasting benefits for students.
The PTO Executive Board may make suggestions for modifications of a given request to bring it within the stated guidelines.
